Story

Hello and welcome to Sarah and Becca’s fundraising page!

The next little bit is from Sarah, but Becca is writing something too from her for here - so watch this space!

Sarah Why:

I don't know if I am completely brave or loopy, but I am entering in my first ever 10k. I have not ever run a 10k in my whole little life. I was in a meeting planning our 2019 MacIntyre Memories and Miles, and our lovely Fundraiser Lorraine, was mentioning about trying to find people willing to do the Beds Twilight 10k. I went home and slept on in, and spoke with her the next morning to say that I was thinking about it, and then here I am signed up.

This will be a huge personal struggle for me. When I was in my third year of Uni I became really poorly, and ended up having to have key hole surgery and since then I have not really got back into a love of exercise. Well Uni was 10 years a go now so I feel there is no time like the present to make a change.

It would be fab if you were able to sponsor me. If everyone I know were even to donate just £1, I think I could raise a fab sum of money. I will be doing the run 31st of August and whilst I run, it will be in memory of Alison Cowley. I have colleagues in my team for whom Alison was a best friend, flat-mate and I know that she is missed each and every day. Alison is also the first lady that I met with a diagnosis of dementia and a learning disability, and drove me to keep doing my best on the Dementia Project - her family have been so wonderful in allowing us as a Project to share her story so that her legacy can live on. I have many other reasons to run in Memory of Alison, but these are some of the few.

The money raised will go to the first area to take a leap of faith and open a new MacIntyre Memory Cafe. We have 5 areas going through the process of looking at venues in the hopes of opening a Memory Cafe, so hopefully this motivates them to get started, as they will have the donations from this to help get set up. We have 4 areas already running Memory Cafes - so do have a look and visit us if you haven't before:

I think that is all from me! Help me if you are able to. I don't like asking people for money, so will just share this page and see what the magic of kindness of people can do. I know money can be difficult in households, so if you aren't able to donate, please do message me with well wishes and good lucks! It will keep me motivated to keep going.
