Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My family has been affected by ME for over 30 years. My sister first suffered as a teenager and then nearly 3 years ago, my own teenage daughter was diagnosed. Through personal experience and online support groups I see how devastating this illness can be. It is hard enough as an adult to deal with the pain, isolation, misunderstanding and difficulties that ME brings, but as a child it is even harder. My daughter has not been able to attend school for nearly 3 years, she has gradually lost contact with her school friends and slowly become more and more isolated. She is a smart, bright, beautiful girl with no social life, minimal education, living with pain, anxiety and isolation on a daily basis. As a parent, it is heart-breaking to watch your child miss out on her childhood and teenage years.

Unless people have had personal experience of ME they really do not understand the devastating impact it can have on you as an individual and as a family. As a ‘hidden’ illness it is vital that awareness and understanding is raised amongst the general public, health professionals,
teachers and employers.
