on 9th December 2016, Sarah's dear friends Georgina & Lee lost their cherished son, Sebastian James, at the age of just 6 years old to a rare genetic disorder.  For much of his all too short life, Seb spent many happy days at Derian House where he was cared for and took part in all sorts of activities which brought him and his parents such happiness and respite, despite the terrible difficulties they all faced in dealing with Seb's condition.  Those happy memories will always bring them great comfort in the weeks, months and years ahead as they try to come to terms with the devastating loss of their beautiful and much loved boy.  In the days following Sebastian's death, Derian House played a vital role in supporting his family and allowing them to spend precious time with Seb to say goodbye.

Nothing that we or anyone else can do can really help to ease the pain of children and parents who face such adversity in their lives, but we would like to do a very small thing to help to raise funds for Derian House in memory of Seb, so that families facing the most difficult times ahead can experience what this wonderful children's hospice has to offer - to bring them some respite, understanding, love and laughter along their most painful of journeys.

The high level of specialised care and support that families need costs Derian House in excess of £3.75 million per year.  Less than 9% of this funding comes from central government.  They are therefore faced with the daunting prospect of having to raise the majority of their financial target through their own resources and the generosity of those who donate.

Everyone who knows me (Sarah ha ha not Aly) knows that I am no athlete and although this may not be an ironman challenge or incredible feat of endurance, to a slightly overweight, 44 year old with a bunion who loves the odd glass of wine and came last in every cross country race at school, it is pretty hard to run what feels like a very long way.  So please, please, could you spare a few pennies to help us along the way - for this wonderful cause, and for Sebastian.
