Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I’m really excited to tell you that I am fundraising for Y Care International, and I will be travelling to Bangladesh in the new year for 3 months - on an
International Citizen Service placement.
On this placement I will be working on projects which improve access to education for marginalised children and young people, particularly girls, alongside addressing gender inequalities. I will be promoting support for education and developing school-going attitudes, and providing non-formal education within poor communities themselves.
Young people in Bangladesh
Unemployment and underemployment are particularly high among young people and many young women face barriers to gaining work at all; women make up half of the population, but only about a third of them are in the labour market. Young men and women have little say in decisions affecting their communities which makes improving their situation more challenging still.
Y Care's work in Bangladesh
Recognising that young women are amongst the most vulnerable members of Bangladeshi society, Y Care work to improve maternal health and create opportunities for decent work through vocational training. They are also helping women take the lead in reducing the impact of disasters in their communities by making sure people are better prepared.
This is why I want to raise £800 before I leave for my placement. You can keep track of how I get on here on my Justgiving page. Any contribution from you will make a real difference to the lives of people in developing countries, so please dig deep!
