I joined #TeamStPauls because my son has been under their care for the last four years, and the amazing team at the unit saved his eyesight.  They are continuing with his care and have been absolutely amazing, ensuring that an extremely worrying and difficult situation for us was as painless, in every way, as possible.  There's so little I can do to show how grateful we are, and I hope this goes a little way to addressing that.

There are currently 2.5 million people in the UK living with sight loss; every six minutes someone is told they are going blind. This figure is expected to grow to 3.5 million by 2050; and yet our services are already struggling with the ever increasing demands as our population ages. A recent report looking into the impact of sight loss found that 2 in 5 people of those that responded experienced anxiety and depression they related to their sight loss. 1 in 4 said their sight loss has a negative impact on their personal relationships. 1 in 3 people were struggling financially. The quality of life for people affected with severe sight loss was lower than those affected by diabetes, hearing loss, depression and even breast cancer.
