Sasha's Durrell Challenge 2018

The Durrell Challenge 2018 · 13 May 2018
Oh hi there. Let me tell you my story.
I have been diagnosed with JIA (juvenile idiopathic arthritis) on my knees at the age of 10. I had to go through 24 small surgeries on my knees during "bad seasons" from the age of 10 till 16. I had my glands removed at the age of 16 but it turned out this was only temporary help. At the age of 23 JIA kicked me back in the knees with me missing out from social life, job and any kind of fun, but gaining 6 more surgeries on my list. I have been taking medication daily for the last 16 years - and some of it has not the most pleasant side effects that I still occasionally suffer from.
I have been bullied during early teens for my parents helping me carry my heavy school bad to school, and for not being a sporty kid (nerds of all ages - unite!).
And do you know what? Enough is enough! I am tired of my body being in control and preventing me from enjoying my life in full.
I am feisty, I am sassy, I am competitive, I am funny, I am strong, I am fabulous, I am ironic, and I am iconic. I am the boss of my own mind and my own body. I am the winner. When I won't be able to run anymore - I will walk. When I wan't be able to walk - I will crawl. And when I can't crawl anymore - I will fly.
If you believe no body should be a limit for nobody, then please support me in my fight and challenge against myself and my fears. And, while you are doing so, you are also supporting an amazing cause: Durrell Wildlife Conservation (https://www.durrell.org/wildlife/), a wonderful organisation with the mission to save species from extinction. All money raised will go there, I am not receiving a single penny.
So what are you waiting for? Let's go for a run! :)
Lots of love,
Sasha
P.S. Note to my geek friends: I will also run in cosplay :)
