Story

The Savills South East Development Team, in partnership with Reside Developments, are raising money for the 6th Lewes Scout Group, in order that they can repair and improve their Scout Hut that sustained serious damage caused through vandalism.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving Page and read our mission to help a local youth group get back on its feet - this project and call for donations is so important, please read on...

We want to repair and restore the 6th Lewes Scout Hut. This is not just any old Hut, but one that features as a significant meeting place and is at the heart of a community for over 100 youngsters who enjoy being part of the Scout movement - that's in addition to the Hut being regularly rented and used by other community groups.

Following a night of mindless vandalism to the Scout Hut, the group has had an almost nomadic existence, as the facilities such as the kitchen and wc's were smashed beyond use, the floors collapsed and walls were hacked with axes. The Leaders made a decision to move out of the Hut until essential works to repair and make the building safe could be completed.

Later this year (October 2019) approx. 30 people from the Savills team will leave their day jobs and join forces with the experienced Reside Developments team, and their trades in a quest to re-build and give back a restored, smart and valuable community asset.

Not only is there a mission to refurbish and restore the building, but the teams will also be tackling overgrown areas to give the Scouts greater use of the outdoor space. In addition, the Reside and Savills teams will be working to build a massive fire pit for those important camps, in addition to dealing with the required disabled access, painting, decorating, security, ground levelling, a sensory room, and of course bringing the Hut in-line with current health and safety legislation - this is a mammoth task, make no mistake!

There have been some very generous qualified trades whom have come forward to give their time, as well as donations from a well-known kitchen supplier, in addition to Walton Bathrooms that has generously donated some of the required sanitaryware, but suffice to say there is so much that is needed to make this building a safe and an inclusive part of the community again.

Today is your chance to help us. Please donate to this project through JustGiving which is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate and it has registered the donation will go directly to the 6th Lewes Scouts as they are a registered charity.

Thank you.
