Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am one of a team of 4 taking part in the Samworth Charity Challenge on the 13thJune, 2014, raising money and awareness for Claire House Children’s hospice. This challenge will be a gruelling approx. 8 hours endurance and strategic event taking place near Lake Vyrnwy in Snowdonia where we will be planning and navigating our way round the course collecting points. This event will consist of approx. 40km Bike ride, 15km canoe course and a 10km Orienteering hike. It is an exhilarating multi discipline event that is by no means easy. We are entering the "Super Tough" category and there will be many other activities on route I.e. archery, abseiling.
Claire House Hospice:
Claire House
hospice provides respite and end-of-life care for children and young adults
with life-limiting medical conditions. They’re also there for their entire
family, providing support and counselling for as long as is needed. It costs
the locally based charity £6,500 per day to run their centre and 80% of this
funding is via fundraising and sponsorship events. Following our visit we left
feeling truly inspired; from the facilities, support team, medial teams and the
true ‘Magic’ they provide during heartbreaking circumstances.
But their work extends far beyond the hospice grounds. Their specialist nursing
team also work in the community through our Hospice to Home scheme, which
offers care and support in the family home.
They currently look after 160 families, with each child coming to Claire House
for 17 nights a year. During their stay with them, each child has at a minimum
of one-to-one care. They can spend time in their hydrotherapy pool, enjoy a
music therapy session, sing karaoke in The Den or take part in arts and crafts
therapy. And the whole family can be there with them, with private bedrooms and
a lounge for Mum and Dad to unwind and take a break from their roles as carers.
