Brighton Marathon 2022 · 10 April 2022 ·

10,500 people in the UK have ataxia which is a progressive neurological condition that disrupts the messages sent from our brains to our muscles that are used to move, speak, listen and see. Ataxia UK funds research into finding treatments and a cure and provide support until they are found.

Story

I have longed wanted to run a marathon in order to raise awareness and funds for further research of the rare condition Ataxia and Cerebellar Ataxia in particular.

Sadly I am well versed with the condition from over 25 years experiencing it at very close quarters amongst multiple paternal family members.

My father passed away in April 2020 age 67 having long suffered from the condition while my brother Bunmi aka Anikura passed away only 9 months later age 45 also having suffered the condition most of his adult life. Previous to that, my Aunty (father's sister) sadly passed away a few years back in her early 60s also having long suffered the condition. And one of my first cousins has had the condition for a good few years now and is only in her mid 30s.

It's such a rare condition that only 10,500 people in the UK have Ataxia which is a progressive neurological condition that disrupts the messages sent from our brains to our muscles that are used to move, speak, listen and see. Ataxia UK funds research into finding treatments and a cure and provide support until they are found.

My father & brothers' deaths have hit me very hard especially how close together they occurred and I also cared for them for a long period so had a very close bond💔.

I currently live life not knowing what tomorrow will bring but being a father myself is the main reason I try my best to carry on.

One thing I will say is please look into bereavement counselling if you are or have struggled with the loss of a loved one 🙏

May your soul continue to rest in peace Anikura 🙏🤍🕊🕯. The sax will play forever 🎷

Thanks in advance for all your kind donations❤️
