Story
On the 18th, 19th and 20th November 2011 five members of Schroders Private Banking will undertake an arduous task - to complete the 2011 VOTWO Pembrokeshire Challenge. Participants are required to run/walk 3 marathons in 3 days along the South West coast of Wales, self-navigating across remote and rocky terrain, carrying approximately 10kg of compulsary kit. The route is technically challenging and will require extreme endurance and concentration.
We have taken on this challenge in order to raise money for Down Syndrome Education (DSE) International. Although this is a UK charity, we have arranged for all of the funds that we raise to be ringfenced and used solely for the benefit of children with Down Syndrome in Guernsey - this means that every penny we raise will be used locally. It costs £8,000 for a representative from DSE International to come to Guernsey to provide the support which is desperately needed. The charity will devise a tailor made programme to cater for the needs of each individual as well as providing help for their families and teachers to ensure that the best care is given. Speech therapists will work with the children to improve their communication skills and workshops will take place to explore the psychological effects of Down Syndrome on all involved.
There is currently no assistance from the States of Guernsey for families with Down Syndrome - they need our help, so please dig deep and donate now.
