London to Brighton Challenge 2021 · 29 May 2021 ·

Hope in the Valley is a member Group of the Riding for the Disabled Association. Its aim is to give children with physical challenges the opportunity to learn to ride ponies, which benefits mobility and co-ordination whilst developing confidence and self esteem.

Story

I  have signed up to do the London to Brighton Ultra walk along with Ed and Freya on the last weekend of May 2021. The 100km (62 mile) route starts in Richmond-upon-Thames on the Saturday morning and we will hopefully arrive at Brighton Race Course sometime on the Sunday.

Walking has become a valuable part of my life in the last year and  contributed significantly to keeping me healthy both physically and mentally. Depending on which day you ask me I am either excited or mildly terrified about taking part in this walk! It is definitely going to be a massive challenge and none of us have ever taken on something like this before (although we have considered it more than once).

I am taking part in the challenge to raise money for Hope in the Valley Riding for the Disabled Group. I have been a volunteer with Hope in the Valley since 2008 and it is a special charity for me. The group provide riding lessons for children with disabilities. Some riders will go on to compete in dressage and countryside challenge and there is also the opportunity to go on the Wales Holiday. I don't get to ride as often as I would like now and being a volunteer with the group means I get to spend time with the ponies as well as a bunch of brilliant people.
