Story
I am running the York 10k to fund raise for an organisation that I've had a long relationship with [longer than my marriage!]. Not only do they do incredible work with a diverse range of people, I also owe Accessible Arts [or The Old Dairy as it was] a lot for providing me with opportunities to work in a rewarding and creative sector. I don't run normally...I cycle and play frisbee with my daughter. So this will be an interesting challenge for me [yes, 10k doesn't seem far compared to a marathon, but it's far enough when you haven't run any sort of distance for over 20 years!].
Accessible Arts & Media runs inclusive creative learning programmes for disabled people, young people, older people and people with mental health problems. Our projects help over 800 people each year to: learn new skills; gain the confidence to have more of a say in the things that matter to them; explore and connect with the world around them in a safe, supportive, fun environment; make new friends and socialise; play an active part in their local community; and feel happier and healthier.Things are better when we all work together!
