Story
So recently we have had a real thunder storm of a time! 11 years ago my own mum had extensive and quality of life saving surgery at HRI on an aggressive tumour in her spine. She suffers to this day but without the help from the staff at HRI and the expertise of the service they give my own mum would have been wheelchair bound years ago. Anyone who knows her will vouch for the fact that she is a fighter, but there is only so much fight one person can give on their own. She needed the help and she got the best possible help. To this day she receives this continued quality to help.
And our recent turn of events..... 3 weeks ago my mum in law had a large and life changing stroke. At the age of only 52 it came completely out of the blue. It has shaken the entire family to the core. Without the swift and expert help from the staff at both Scunthorpe General Hospital in the first instance, and Hull Royal Infirmary to carry out life saving surgery we would be without a huge part of the family. Our Mum/Mum in Law/Nana/Partner/Sister/Friend is still with us and for that we are so thankful.
As a sign of my appreciation, to give much needed financial support to an underfunded part of our lives I am going to do a walk from Hull Royal Infirmary to Scunthorpe General Hospital, this seems a bit pathetic to write down but at this stage it is the best I can do. It is 23 miles, I shall start at the door of the neurology department, HRI and concluded at the doors of the Stroke Unit Scunthorpe General.
I shall be setting off in the early hours of the morning of Saturday 29th October... why so early I hear you bellow at the screen.... well its quite simple, Scunthorpe United play that day and I couldn't miss kick off!!! Also I feel it is a prime opportunity to get the change off the fellow Iron supporters as they buy their coffee's/burgers!
A small donation no matter what will all be going to a great cause. The final total will be split and sent half to Scunthorpe Stroke unit and the other to the Neurology Department at Hull Royal Infirmary.
Please guys I beg you to scrape a few pence together and show me, the fat unfit lad who thinks lifting the remote from the sofa is exercise, some of your support!
Share far and wide and lets get every available penny out of everyone!
