4x4x48 - David Goggins Challenge · 6 March 2021
In 2019, I shared my story to raise awareness and money for SSAFA, you can see that here. I completed an indoor triathlon consisting of a 400m pool swim, 20km cycle and a 5km run… to some this alone may seem a challenge, to others this may seem easy, so I decided to do this for a continuous 24 hours managing 16 triathlons and up to the 3k mark of the 17th. 6.8k of swimming, 340km of cycling, 80km of running, nearly 2 ironman’s covered in 24 hours, all indoors.
I decided to do this challenge inside due to the mental challenge that would intensify the physical challenge. At 6am, I was as white as a sheet of paper, but finishing at 4pm, 10 hours later, the joy of accomplishment I felt was remarkable and to experience that with the support of people around me was truly amazing.
This year, I am going to complete the David Goggins 4 x 4 x 48 Challenge.
4 Miles, every 4 Hours, for 48 Hours. I will begin running at 4am on Saturday 6th March, the same time as David Goggins in America, and finishing with our final run-on Monday at 12am.
My times are as follows:
Saturday 6th March:
04:00, 08:00, 12:00, 16:00, 20:00
Sunday 7th March:
00:00, 04:00, 08:00, 12:00, 16:00, 20:00
Monday 8th March:
00:00
I understand that during the challenge this year I won’t have the same support around me, I would be greatly appreciative of a quick phone call during my run times or 1 person to run with me during the allocated times!
Repeating 2019, I will be once again raising money for SSAFA, My motivation then, and still is to make my dad proud, and despite the abuse I suffered at his hands, he too suffered abuse of his mind.
SSAFA is a remarkable charity which has been providing lifelong support to our Forces, and their families since 1885. In 2017, their staff and team of volunteers supported 73,227 people, from World War Two veterans to young men and women who have served in more recent conflicts. For every £1 that you donate to SSAFA, 89p will go directly to help their beneficiaries.
I believe it’s overcoming our own discomforts that can drive us all.
Thank you,
Scott
