Skye Community Response work to ensure that everyone living on Skye and Raasay has someone to turn to for help during the ongoing COVID - 19 crisis. We also support health and social care services in the wider Skye and Lochalsh area.

Story

Skye Community Response Bikes is a group of trained riders who volunteer to assist the Isle of Skye local NHS and community as whole during this pandemic.

We do this by:

  • Delivering NHS samples & tests from Portree and Broadford to Raigmore
  • Assist in delivering essential equipment to Portree and Broadford
  • Deliver urgent samples taken by the local surgeries in Portree, Dunvegan, Broadford and Kyle of Lochalsh to Inverness.
  • Assist Skye Community Response with prescription deliveries to the local community

The result of our efforts has sped up the results from tests considerably for patients in the area as well as ensured that essential equipment is available in order to allow continued testing to be carried out. We have been carrying out this service for a number of weeks now and there has been an increasing demand with over 2,000 miles of riding per week being required.

Due to the high mileage involved we have decided to ask for funds to assist in the on-going maintenance costs of these trips to ensure we can provide this service uninterrupted. With the pandemic situation not having an end date this service may continue for some time.

Surplus funds will be put towards the Skye Community Response efforts.
