Global Walking Challenge for Building Futures - Bangladesh · 25 March 2019
Over the last 15 years, Building Futures, along with Plan International, has supported education-based projects in Indonesia, Benin, Brazil, Vietnam, China, Cambodia, Niger, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. This year we are focused on Bangladesh.
Schools close for 2-3 months every year in Nageshwari District, Bangladesh. Snowmelt causes flooding along the country's many river systems from the Himalayas to the north to the Bay of Bengal in the south. Asa a result, only 25% of children in this region complete secondary education, and more than 80% of girls leave school and marry before 18.
In early 2018, Study Group staff voted to raise funds to improve the infrastructure of 8 schools in this region. We are almost halfway through our 30-month fundraising program to raise £200,000. We want to help 2,603 young people in this area maintain their schooling, as well as another 7,000 children who are indirectly affected.
Our team, Scrambled Legs, is spending the next month walking to raise awareness and compete to walk the furthest distance and raise the most money. You can help us and the children of Bangladesh!
