Walk a mile in her shoes · 23 November 2013

Safer is a domestic abuse charity in the Bailiwick of Guernsey that works to raise awareness of the issue and to support local survivors of domestic abuse and their children. We run a refuge, Independent Domestic Violence Advisory Service and a helpline. We also hold training events each year.

Story

The White Ribbon Campaign is the largest effort in the world of men working to end male violence against women. ‘Walk a mile in her shoes, which is being held on 23 November 2013, is part of White Ribbon Week. However, this is a sponsored walk with a difference! We are asking men to slip on a pair of high heels and walk from the Salerie Corner to the Model Yacht Pond on the Castle Emplacement.

The Sponsored Walk with a difference is being held to raise funds for Safer – a local domestic abuse charity - to raise funds for its work with high risk victims of domestic abuse.  So come on down with friends and family who will support you and rub your sore feet at the finish line where your fundraising will be recognised with a short reception with refreshments.  We hope this will be a bit of fun, but remember, this event is being put on to show that men are standing up (possibly wobbling) and speaking out against domestic abuse and violence towards women.
