Story
Hello 😊. Many thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page!
When most of the world’s focus is on fighting the Covid-19 virus I have been looking for ways to raise funds for a charity that needs support.
To lend a hand in the community I joined a group a couple of years ago to learn the Ukulele and play in care homes every week. That stopped in January this year.
Going back further in 2003 I ran the London Marathon to raise funds for Cancer Research. Since then I have kept up my running and to this day, I run 10km on most mornings of the week. To take on the recent 2.6 challenge that replaced the London marathon this year I thought about running 26 miles by doubling and then trebling the distance of my morning runs over a few weeks. Tough, but not really that much of a challenge.
So instead I put on a creative hat and devoted most of my time during the first month of lockdown to design and make the ‘virus destruction’ woodturning sculpture you can see in the above photo. It is quite big and heavy, incorporating a real carving chainsaw bar and chain. I was inspired by the efforts of experts, decision makers and key workers across the globe and I will donate the sculpture to a local hospital or care home.
