Wheels on the Western Front – Ride to Arnhem · 9 September 2022 ·

We exist to give a lifetime of support to the wider Army family, regardless of where or when a soldier served. We act swiftly and efficiently in providing support in the form of grants to those who find themselves in real need. We also provide grants to charities who support the wider Army family.

Story

Firstly, the legal bit;

I am participating in an event promoted by Green Jersey Cycling Tours Ltd to raise funds for the ABF the soldiers charity. I have committed to raise a minimum of £1,375 for the charity, a share of which will be used to pay costs of travel, accommodation and other costs.

Now thats out the way;

Roll up, Roll up, come one come all and witness the morbidly obese (bm index confirmed) man ride 331 miles across northern Europe on a battle field tour following operation Market Garden, hopefully making it further than any guardsmen did in 1944 and making it to Arnhem on time. In the process raising a s**t-tonne of money for the Army benevolent fund, who as im sure you are aware, do a fantastic job.

Those who know me will know fitness isn't necessarily my forte, if i had a quid for everytime i was hanging at the back of a pt session when i was serving, id have enough to retire, financally stable, already. (believe it or not a pti shouting "run faster" or "get up there" did'nt magically provide me the extra lung i hoped for).

That said, like many others i've had my fair share of issues since leaving and have recently found cycling as a way of forgetting the world because i'm allergic to running, (it makes me go red, gives me significant dyspnoea, sweats, and makes me vomit).

So, combining the cycling, and like many of us need, a target to work at, i've registered to take part in the ride to Arnhem 2021.

Nearer to the time i will endeavour to set up a system of video documenting the 5 days so anyone who has donated can see a massive sweaty mess wheezing his way across northern Europe, then relax, sit back with a beer/wine/g&t (delete as appropriate) and have a bloody good giggle at it.

Last bit, hang on;

Lastly i want to ride in memory of not only L/Sgt Dave Greenhalgh but also
