Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Alzheimer’s disease is an illness that robs people of their lives. Having seen my mother and now my father progress through the various phases of the disease I have seen first-hand what a terrible impact it has on both the sufferer, their family and carers. For the last 3 years I have also volunteered at a day centre which has a high number of dementia sufferers and I have learnt that Alzheimer’s is not just an old person’s disease; relatively young people get it too and it devastates the lives of those affected.
Close to a million people are living with a form of dementia in the UK and many more are impacted by it! The sooner a treatment, or hopefully a cure, is found the better for us all.
So, this year my charity fundraising effort is to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK. To do this I will be cycling from my father’s birthplace of Luffenham in Rutland to his home in East Sussex, via the coast of Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex, a distance of about 600km. My old friend Simon Lowe, who also lost his mother to Alzheimer’s disease, is cycling with me. To do this we are looking for a 5-6 day “reasonable” weather window and hoping to start on 15th October. We would be very grateful if you would sponsor one or indeed both of us on this ride – consider it an insurance policy!
