Story
This year marks a significant milestone for our Graphic Design program at Seattle Central College —75 years of creativity, collaboration, and innovation! Since its inception in 1949-50, our program has evolved from the Advertising Arts to the vibrant Graphic Design curriculum we offer today.
Consider this rough estimate: Over the past 75 years, with an average of 35 graduates per year, we have fostered over 2,600 design alumni. If each alum had a 20-year career and the average salary was $35,000, the collective impact is staggering—an estimated 1.84 billion into the local economy. (35 Students X 75 years X 20-year career X $35,000 annual salary = 1.84 billion dollars (adjusted to 2025 dollars) into the local economy)
The strength of our program lies in its community — the relationships built, the mentorship shared, and the incredible achievements of our alumni. It’s a time to reflect on how far we’ve come and honor our graduates' impact in the design world.
To sustain and strengthen the program, the Graphic Design Program is looking to raise funds for our annual PORTSHOWLIO, a celebration and showcase of graduating students' work. These funds may also support curriculum, community engagement, events, projects, enrichment activities, equipment purchases, and more.
This is a testament to the quality of education and the spirit of collaboration that defines our program.
Let’s celebrate our rich history and the bright future ahead.
Please consider donating today.
