Story
The Club was formed in 2010 and came about as an educational forum for stroke Survivors and Carers who were getting little or no help from the Health Community following discharge from hospital.
It quickly grew in numbers and in 2012 moved to its current venue. Its main aims today are to provide a service for ANY Stroke Survivors who feel isolated in the community.
The group provides Social, Practical and Emotional support as well as Physiotherapy from a dedicated Neurological Physiotherapist.
The Club is an independently funded group within the Stroke Association, and is self funding through Donations, Grants and Fund Raising.
Second Chance Group have a resident Neuro-physiotherapist who runs a 1 hour session at the Club every Tuesday. The exercises are mainly chair based with an emphasis on regaining movement.
The sessions are light hearted and fun for all the participants who look forward to these weekly sessions.
Club Members pay a small subscription to attend each Tuesday, and this is kept deliberately small so that no one is excluded. However the weekly funds do not cover our weekly cots for the venue, Physiotherapist and Taxis for the less mobile members.
We therefore rely on Donations, Fund raising exploits , Raffles and boot fairs to bring in the rest of the capitol needed to run the club. We currently have 8 volunteers(Including the management committee) and 30 members. We are growing in numbers and have recruited 2 new members since the new year.
Our members are a mixture of very severely disabled, mentally and emotionally challenged. Most have no life or interests outside of the Club and therefore use it as a social lifeline.
The Stroke Association will endeavour to use donations raised through this page to support the group (although the charity reserves the right to use the money for any purpose in the interests of its charitable objects).
