Story

You’re reading this because you know me, maybe like me or even love me. What we share is priceless  precious. But imagine if the person whose company you sought the most, whose company you loved the most, was suddenly taken from you. Chris, my Chris was that person for me. He was killed in a road traffic accident, turning my whole world upside down, but through the horror of his loss a charity called Brake supported me. They help victims of such accidents and campaign to make roads safer for everyone.

For that I am forever grateful so I’ve resolved to run the 50 mile Lakeland Ultratrail on 24 July to raise funds for Brake. This is not a race on the flat, it’s a race over the Lakeland mountains and fells. I’ll toil up a cumulative 9,728 feet of ascent and descend a total of 10,009 feet, during light and darkness in the hope of bettering my 2019 time of 13 hours, 28 minutes and 28 seconds. Often as I run I talk to Chris in my head and heart, at moments of exhilaration as well as those inevitable moments of struggle, and, do you know what  – it certainly lifts my spirits.

It is important that I can acknowledge the wonderful life Chris and I shared as well as supporting Brake in their commitment to saving lives. As a charity, all of Brake’s campaigns, projects and victim support services rely on funding and donations. Without these contributions, they cannot realise their goal of a world with zero road deaths. Please will you help me to do just that? It’s easy – just click on this link .......
