We provide after-school and summer programs to guide youth toward a hopeful future!

Story

I am the proud Executive Director of Urban Compass, a nonprofit focused on supporting awesome kids and families from Watts and Pico-Union through our high-quality after-school and summer programs. We guide youth toward a hopeful future and provide a safe space for them to learn and grow during what are often dangerous hours in their own neighborhoods. I have decided to commemorate my 5th year with Urban Compass by running the Skechers Performance Stadium to the Sea Charity Challenge on March 18th. I will run the 13+ miles from Hollywood to Santa Monica as part of the LA Marathon program and for my kids!

I am starting my 5th year as Executive Director of this cool organization and I thank God every day that I get to do this work. I have seen so many of our families and kids succeed together and improve on their report cards, reading fluency, school attendance, boost their self-esteem, explore the community and world around them through our various field trips, and I have seen so many smiles from all the fun that it's tough to keep count. I am so inspired by our kids, our families, my staff, and our communities. They give me the fuel to keep going and bring as many resources as I can to help improve the lives of our kids and provide them more great opportunities for their future!

Help me reach that finish line in Santa Monica! Your contributions toward my $650 fundraising goal would be appreciated. Every dollar counts and will be used directly toward our after-school and summer programs for our awesome kids!

About the charity

Urban Compass was established in 2004 to address the bleak outcomes and combat the dismal statistics affecting children and youth in Watts and South Central Los Angeles. Focusing on mentorship from high school and college students, family engagement, core academic support, exciting field trips, and engaging enrichment activities, Urban Compass offers free after-school and summer programs for elementary kids in Watts and Pico-Union to help them navigate through elementary school and beyond, keeping them out of gangs, and on a path to college and a positive future. Through our cohort-based programs, we support our students and their families through each of their crucial elementary school years to improve school attendance, reading and academic performance, and family involvement.
