SEGA Girls School Student Sponsorship - PSU DDAR Interns · 11 July 2017

Our mission is to support quality education, life skills, and entrepreneurship to help vulnerable girls in Tanzania become leaders in their communities.

Story

Across the developing world, women and girls are consistently marginalized and undervalued. And yet a striking body of evidence demonstrates that educating and empowering women to realize their full potential may be the most powerful way to break the cycle of poverty and create prosperity. Nurturing Minds hopes to do this in Tanzania.

A U.S. based non-profit, Nurturing Minds works with its sister organization, Secondary Education for Girls Advancement (SEGA), and is responsible for the construction and development of the SEGA Girls School near the town of Morogoro, Tanzania. After meeting with Tracey Dolan, the Co-Founder of Nurturing Minds, the 2017 DDAR Intern Class decided to get involved.

Since its founding in 2007, the SEGA School has thrived with:
• 210 girls currently on the SEGA campus (Grades 7-11)
• 96% student retention rate
• 75% of SEGA students go into nursing, business administration, non-profit management.

Our fundraising will go to two separate projects. The first continues a commitment from our predecessors. The DDAR Intern Classes of 2015 and 2016 have financed school for a SEGA student named Grace for three years. Our goal is to raise enough money to complete the 4-year sponsorship for Grace, whose story you can see below.

Your donation will make the following impacts for Grace:
• $2.05 supports Grace for 1 day
• $14.40 supports Grace for 1 week
• $62.50 supports Grace for 1 month

The second area of support is for a Community Development Project at the SEGA School. In past years, girls at the SEGA School who have been a part of the Community Development Project have visited and provided services to elderly homes, orphanages, and children with disabilities. This initiative costs $1,500.

In summary, our total fundraising goal is $1,900: $400 to complete Grace’s schooling, $1,500 for the Community Development Project, and any remaining funds to cover additional needs.

If you would like to support The SEGA School for Girls, please simply click the “donate” button and fill out the necessary information. After a donation has been made, you will receive confirmation, a tax receipt for filing purposes, and a thank you note.

With your help, we can work to allow a well-deserving girl to reach her learning potential.

With sincere thanks,

The 2017 DDAR Intern Class
