Story
This summer I will be going to Uganda and helping build a playground for a school with the charity Play Action International.I am hoping to raise £2250, any donations made will help fund the resources and materials for the project.
Play is an essential part of a childhood and is critical to child development. Play Action International focuses on underdeveloped areas where for many people poverty, hunger and exploitation is a significant part of their childhood and factoring play into their lives is challenged and overall, not seen as a priority. By providing children with access to safe play they can process their experience and make sense of the world. As well as allowing them to develop play-based learning skills such as problem solving, language development and social skills. The work that Play Action International has carried out has made a large difference to these children’s lives already as supported by the statistics listed below:
- 43% reported a decrease in anti-social behaviour
- 100% of schools noted a reduction in student absenteeism
- 74% of children gave ‘the playground’ as the reason to attend school
- 98% of schools saw a significant increase in enrolment
- 83% of teachers saw improvements in children’s behaviour and concentration during classes
