Story

Seonaid and Linda are walking the West Highland Way over 7 days starting 06/05/22 in memory of Alex, who died on the 12th May 2019 aged 22, eighteen months after being diagnosed with a rare Renal Synovial Sarcoma

Seonaid’s Story

One of the last and hardest conversations I had with my amazing son Alex before he died was.  “ Mam I don’t want you to be a heap on the floor after I’m gone” I replied “ Alex I will be a heap on the floor …( I have been a heap on the floor more times than anyone will ever know ! )  but I made a promise to Alex…”I will pick myself off the floor”,so here goes !!

With the fantastic support of one of my walking buddies Linda Neish, we are planning to walk the West Highland Way over 7 days with added support from Jill Skea on the last few days of our walk, in aid of the wonderful charity Friends of Anchor, Anchored Together Appeal.

Every penny raised from your donations will go directly to Friends of ANCHOR's biggest campaign to date- The ANCHORED Together appeal for The ANCHOR Centre which is due to open in 2023. The brand new, NHS purpose-built facility will bring together all oncology and haematology out and day patient services. The charity is raising £2m to Deliver the Difference when the Centre opens its doors for this generation and generations to come, through investing in state-of-the-art equipment, stunning artwork displays and additional extras to make for a more holistic and welcoming environment for patients. Friends of Anchor gave Alex and our family so much support throughout his fight with Cancer. They gave Alex such a fantastic experience, being a ‘Friends Of Anchor Brave model 2018’ where Alex met and shared the love and  support from 23 heroes… his “Brave Brother’s “  A huge thank you to these amazing guys⚓️⭐️❤️⚓️.  I remember one day when Alex was very ill and feeling so  low one  of the Friends of Anchor team asked “Alex would you consider being one of our models in our fashion show “ Alex replied  “I can tell you right now that WON’T be happening!,” fast forward six months and who was the biggest poser strutting his stuff ?! 😎

Linda’s story

I walked the West Highland Way 4 years ago with my daughter Michelle and we raised over £1400 for the Anchor Unit. So when Seonaid mentioned she’d love to do it too I didn’t hesitate to suggest we get it organised and on 6/5/22 we will set off on this epic 97 mile walk taking in some of the most breathtaking scenery in Scotland.

Alex fought his cruel illness with such courage, determination & positivity and to be able to raise funds again for the Anchor unit not only keeps his memory alive, but also helps others going through the same devastating illness. I first met Alex when he was a cute shy wee toddler and watched him grow into a lovely, caring, helpful & friendly young man with a wicked sense of humour & that same cheeky smile he had as a toddler. He touched so many lives & will never be forgotten.

Friends of Anchor were a huge support to Alex & his family throughout.

Jill Skea “ Alex was one very UNIQUE, special, young man “

We appreciate how the cost of living crisis is having a huge impact on everyone right now, but if you can, please make a donation to this very worthwhile cause - no donation is too small. Thank you 💙x
