Story
I've seen first hand the cruelty of Dementia and Alzheimer's losing a number of my grandparents to this disease and most recently my beautiful queen of a Grandma! We spend a lifetime building up memories with our loved ones and this disease slowly takes them away one by one. It's like ripping a page from a finished story until there is no memory of that story at all! Not only this but I've seen the pain it leaves for those caring for that person, you witness them change from the person you love so dearly into this person you don't recognise anymore and in the worst case they no longer recognise you.
For the month of October I will dedicate my mile swim in memory of someone lost to Dementia or Alzheimer's, starting with my beautiful Grandma on her birthday on the 1st October and then my other grandparents then to anyone else who wants me to remember their loved ones! 31 days, 31 miles, 31 memories.
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever.Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
Please support if you can and if you would like me to swim for your loved one get in touch with a picture and a short paragraph which I will share. Email laurenkateturner@hotmail.co.uk
