Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Arthur and I am 7 years old. Last year, the morning after boxing day I was rushed to hospital with Meningococcal Septicaemia (a form of Bacterial Meningitis) and I almost died. But I'm a SUPERHERO and I won.

I was put in an induced coma for over a week while my body battled the virus. My hands and feet were black as was a lot of my body where the septicaemia had spread but little by little I fought back, I claimed my hands back (except for a little bit of two fingers) and when I eventually woke it was clear that my amazing brain was fine too. My first words were "can I have an apple please?" I couldn't though because I was still very poorly!

We knew from early on that my legs weren't going to make it and the Septicaemia had left a lot of deep wounds on my body so I was in a lot of pain but being a SUPERHERO I was so brave and just focused on my physio, getting the rest of me better, getting out of bed and getting home. I once spent an entire day teaching myself to lift my arm and pick my nose - and I did it!

We had to wait until February until my legs had done all the healing they were going to do and then they operated. My lower legs were amputated but my superpowers had saved my knees! I had more trips to theatre after that, constant physio and wound care. I was so stressed I stopped eating and lost some hair but I NEVER GAVE UP. And eventually, the day after lockdown started I came home!!

Here's where Limbpower comes in. It was lockdown, we couldn't see our friends or family and we were fragile and overwhelmed with how to live life with my new normal. Limbpower introduced us to other families who had been through similar or have children who were born with limb differences. Some of the children messaged me personally. Some of the parents messaged Mummy and Daddy as well as Physiotherapists and Prosthesists. Limbpower have shown us we're not alone and what the future holds for me. They run events for the whole family where I'll get to try all sorts of activities and meet children like myself and I'm most excited about the camping weekends they organise! I've already won a medal for a virtual challenge they run!

Please help me, one of my best friends and fellow superhero's Solomon Short and my supervillan (OK, hero) twin sisters Nancy and Zelda to reach our target of £300 by travelling 20km between us by wheelchair, scooter, on foot or just flying.

Thankyou,

Arthur. X
