So why AM I doing a swim? The short answer is my mum was at my church when the event was publicised and she told me I was joining in.

The longer answer is access to water should be a fundamental right for survival and living.

Every minute, every day, people suffer and lives are lost needlessly because of a lack of safe water and sanitation. Help Water Aid end this global crisis and transform lives.

WaterAid works specifically on the WASH crisis: water, sanitation and hygiene. Their vision is of a world where everyone has access to safe water and sanitation.

So, on Saturday evening please offer up a prayer or a kind thought in support of my activity and hope that I make it through to the end! I know that other people, my nephew especially, can swim further but please support me as I try to do a little bit to help.

I will let you know if I survive the event - which should be good fun. The church group is hoping to swim at least 25 miles combined and all ages are doing their bit. The local leisure centre has given us access to the pool and will cordon our bit off apparently so we shouldn't get disturbed by ladies who only do widths and anyway don't like to get their hair wet or by dive bombers (hopefully!)

Thank you for reading this to the end of my blurb - NOW PLEASE GIVE YOUR MONEY TO WATER AID (Thank you, thank you thank you!)
