The orphanage for street children, run by The Midlands Children Hope Centre (MCHC), is at risk of being shut down due to lack of space and facilities! The Centre, which is supported by the African Lion & Environmental Research Trust (ALERT), works with orphans and vulnerable children aiming to rehabilitate them back into mainstream society and education. It is the ONLY orphanage for street children in the area. This means the 30 young boys who currently live in the orphanage could be forced back into a life on the streets, a life which MCHC and ALERT have fought so hard to keep them safe from.
I have worked with these wonderful children and that’s all they are, children. Many of them have faced difficulties we could never imagine – abandonment or escaping abuse. Unflinching dedication has been required to build trust and provide some respite from the very adult situations these children face daily.
I’m taking this opportunity to turn my dad’s relentless and obsessive need to push our physical limits (known to others as a ‘midlife crisis’) to turn it into something which will shape the future for these young children in Zimbabwe. But I need your support!
So the quest is the ominous ‘3 Peaks Challenge’ which will see our group scale the three highest mountains across Scotland (Ben Nevis -1344m), England (Scafell Pike – 978m) and Wales (Snowdon – 1085m) in a meagre 24 hours!!!
It’s going to be tough but nothing compared to what these poor children will face if we can’t help them. Please, please support us by donation and share with your friends, family and work colleagues!
