Story

I somehow struggled my way to a 10k last month, and it took me a full week to recover. On the spur of the moment, I have signed up to a half marathon in three months. I'm still not sure entirely how this happened. Please sponsor me to make me feel better!

In my line of work, on average I refer one or two people a week for cataract surgery. I see first hand the difference it makes to people's vision, and through this, to their lives. Covid-19 backlogs have delayed treatment for many of my patients, and I've seen the impact this too has had on their lives. However, despite their frustration, at least they know that their problem will be resolved eventually.

Unfortunately, for millions worldwide, this isn't the case. Cataracts are one of the leading causes of blindness worldwide, and it's a crying shame that something that can be fixed with a fairly straightforward twenty minute surgery should be the cause of misery for so many.

As part of the Who is Hussain 'Sprint for Sight' campaign, I am running the Richmond Park Half Marathon. For every £31 donation, WiH (https://whoishussain.org), in conjunction with SightSavers (https://www.sightsavers.org), will arrange for one complete cataract surgery to be performed in some of the most remote communities of Pakistan.

Chip in what you can to help me hit my target for a great cause!
