Shailem's Running 95 miles for Recovery

95 miles for Recovery · 27 December 2022
I am hoping to help raise money for Street Scene who help with Addiction and Recovery. I plan on running along the Jurassic Coast starting from Exmouth to Old harry rocks along the costal path! I will give myself 36 hours max, as a guide really.. I will aim for sooner! This event will take place on the 27th December starting at 09:00 and I’ll be hoping to finishing the very next day on my birthday the 28th December. What a way to celebrate right!
Street Scene is an Absolute amazing charity with an incredible purpose. They are doing an amazing job supporting people and guiding those who are struggling and need help into a more positive way of life.
This will mean so much to me for so many reasons.
Those who may or may not know me my name is Shailem Dodson and I have a Facebook page Running Sober. I have been clean and sober since 01/08/2021. My time in active addiction led to a dishonourable discharge from the British army, countless nights in police custody and a prison sentence, probation is still on going but I am stable now. I’ve been homeless and I’ve been lost.
I was drinking recklessly to the point towards the end I was doing it all day everyday.. from the moment I woke to the moment I slept. My drug use ended with smoking crack cocaine.
A living nightmare. Alcohol and drugs once had a huge control over my life, For years I took no responsibility for my actions and blamed everyone and everything around me for everything that I was actually responsible for.
I changed and not only did it affect me. It affected everyone else around me too.
I was consumed by the life of addiction.
I took back that power. I now make every choice now with a clear head. I am clean and sober and I’m so bloody proud of it.
Running is a huge part of my recovery. Im doing what I love in hope to raise money for an amazing cause!
Thank you for taking the time to read this, anything is massively appreciated!
For those of you struggling keep on going.
I’m running for my recovery and to help inspire others that we do recover.
