Story
The Anthony Nolan Trust is a blood cancer charity involved in matching people willing to donate their stem cells, to people, who are in desperate need of a transplant.
Marrow is a part of the network of students who work with the Anthony Nolan Trust. My involvement with Marrow started in 2001 as a student volunteer and as a potential donor. Marrow has grown since then with over 50 Marrow groups and hundreds of student volunteers across the country. It costs £40 to add each potential donor to the stem cell register and Marrow now recruit one in four people who go on to donate stem cells.
In 2013 I was privileged enough to have the opportunity to be a stem cell donor. It was a rewarding and formative experience culminating in the receipt of a wonderful "thank-you" card from the recipient of my stem cells.
September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month and the brilliant students of Truro Marrow are raising funds by walking and running the distance from Truro to St Luke's Campus, Exeter (92 miles). I am joining them in this endeavour with the target of 92 miles in Sep by myself. I am not much of a runner so I will be cycling as well, with 2 miles on the bike equating to 1 mile of running for the purposes of this challenge.
I am aware that times are hard for so many people right now. Please just donate whatever you can and feel free to join me for a (v.slow) run/ ride! Thanks
