Support Orphanage for Rohingya Girls

Thank you for taking the time to read my Orphaned Rohingya Girls fundraising page. I have chosen this cause in order to raise awareness about the plight of the most vulnerable among what the UN has described as the most persecuted people on earth. A 2018 Save The Children report revealed that one in two Rohingya children who fled to Bangladesh without their parents were orphaned by brutal violence. There were at the time more than 6000 unaccompanied and separated Rohingya children living in the camps of Cox's Bazaar. Of them, young girls in particular were, and still are, at risk of sexual violence, trafficking and exploitation.
As a journalist, I travelled to the camps many times to witness first hand the horrors the Rohingya suffered in the hands of Myanmar's military and how uncertain their future is. Over and over again I heard their harrowing stories as I looked into their haunted, tear-stained eyes. Stories of rape, of torture, of witnessing the death of loved-ones, of their homes being burnt down before their very eyes. The faces of those Rohingya will remain etched in my heart forever. That is why this issue is something I feel very strongly about and something I wish to continue to highlight.
On June 16th, just a few days after the 23rd death anniversary of my father, Habibur Rahman Chowdhury and 5 months after the covid-related demise of his two brothers, I will attempt to reach the summit of Ben Nevis, the highest point of the British Isles. All the money I raise will go directly to the charity, Lonely Orphans.
