Story
Thanks for taking a moment to read this appeal. I'm running the Belfast City Marathon on Sunday 30 April 2023 😬 and I'm asking for your support to raise much-needed funds for the Motor Neuron Disease (MND) Association (NI Branch).
Why the MND charity?
Having lost friends and neighbours to MND, I've seen how this cruel disease can devastate lives and rob families of loved ones before their time.
Research into MND is shamefully underfunded, with no effective treatment let alone a cure.
The MND Association focuses on improving access to care, research and campaigning for those living with or affected by MND.
Why a marathon?
While I'm more used to exercising on two wheels, I've completed a few half marathons in recent years. But I haven't achieved the 26.2 mile challenge and I've got unfinished business with the Belfast Marathon in particular.
Last year I stayed with the first 3:45 pacer until within a quarter of a mile from the finish, when I suddenly collapsed in a heap on the Ravenhill Road and recorded a "DNF" - I literally could see and hear the finish line but couldn't get back to my feet! 😖
So I'm challenging myself to get over the line on 30 April and raise some £££ for the MNDA. I'm following a 4-month training programme and, with a few adjustments to my preparation and approach, I'm determined to complete the challenge (a respectable finish time would be a bonus!). 🤞
How can you contribute?
I know that finances are tight for everyone at present but I'd be really grateful if you can make a contribution (however small) to this worthwhile charity.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Many thanks in advance.
