Story

After many hospital visits, in winter 2018 our mum was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme, a grade 4 Brain Tumour.
It was a complete shock to everyone who knew her as she had always been active and healthy.

She had a brain operation on 10th December, after which it was decided that she would follow on with chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment in January 2019.

Life continued as normally as possible until the two things that meant a lot to our mum were taken away - her driving licence and her ability to work. This meant she lost all her independence and had to rely on others to take her out. She spent a lot of time in the house and we quickly saw her mental health start to deteriorate.

By mid/late 2019 she was on her 3rd round of chemotherapy, as none of the others had worked. It was then that we saw her physical health go downhill. She became very tired and simple tasks like a short walk with the dog or going up and down the stairs became a huge struggle.
We had a hospital bed put in the living room, where she spent every day and night. She had lost her appetite and wasn’t drinking much either.

Throughout the year mum was incredibly brave and saw each setback as another hurdle to conquer.

Towards the end of November she was taken to hospital due to having a lot of pain and water retention in her legs. We had hoped that she wouldn’t be in hospital for long, but little did we know this is where she would spend the last few weeks of her life, receiving wonderful care from the medical teams and nurses in Royal Derby Hospital.

Whilst there she deteriorated even more; unaware of her surroundings, sleeping all day and even losing her ability to see and talk. The tumour had won the battle.

6am on the 11th December 2019 we received the dreaded phone call to say our mum had sadly passed away. We were devastated. She was only 51.

A beautiful mum, loving daughter and amazing friend who we love dearly and miss terribly. This is for you. 💛
