Story
Please join me in supporting refugee and immigrant families in the US.
From May 7 - 21, I will be walking or running a 5K-a-Day! I will be alternating my walk / run days, and will have one REST day during the 15-day period. I invite you to support me by supporting Bethany during this time!
Imagine facing violence, extreme poverty, unexpected separation from your family, gang extortion, or sex trafficking—all before the age of 12. That’s the reality for many unaccompanied children seeking asylum.
Did you know?
- 28% of the unaccompanied minors at the border are under the age of 15.
- 48% of the unaccompanied children at the border traveled all the way from Guatemala. From the Mexico/Guatemala border, it is 1,125 miles by foot to McAllen, Texas. At three miles an hour, that's 375 hours, or about 38 days if they walk 10 hours a day.
- Shelters for unaccompanied children at the U.S.–Mexico border are over capacity, with more than 19,000 minors crossing the border during the month of March.
- As of late March, more than 5,000 children were housed in holding facilities, most of which were built to detain adult
men. - $15 a day, or about $100 can help provide one week of love and support in a temporary foster home.
- Transitional foster care provides urgent health and mental care for the unaccompanied minor AND works to reunify the child with a family member.
Each step and every dollar helps to support children and reunite families. Your pledge of any amount will be a blessing to many.
"but no stranger had to spend the night in the street, for my door was always open to the traveler" -Job 31:32
Children need families - not fences!
