Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.

Story

So as many of you know I looked after my dad for 2-3 years doing everything from cleaning him up to his shopping etc. My dad was put into a nursing home on the 9th of January 2019 to get the constant care he so desperately needed. My dad was forever battling infections that he got through the ulcers on his legs and many of them turned to sepsis. I can’t thank the NHS enough for everything they did. Unfortunately on the 11th of April my dad was taken back into hospital with another case of Sepsis. After being practically taken straight to resus the doctors told me it was wise to start Palliative Care as his body was so frail from the constant infections and other medical problems he had. My dad fought on for a further 3 weeks and then once returned to the nursing home unfortunately fell ill with an infection that went straight to sepsis in his weakened state. He died surrounded by his family at 6:00pm on the 1st of May and I was and am still horrendously heart broken.

I want to raise as much awareness and money for the UK SEPSIS AWARENESS TRUST to help raise more awareness  and hopefully prevent further deaths from this awful illness. I’d like to ask you to donate what you can whether that be 50p or a £1. Please do not give what you don’t have and leave yourself out of a pocket. I’m going to be doing some fundraising over the next couple weeks and you can donate here. Please help me in this mission.

All my love,

Shannon Wilson
