Story
After losing my Dad to Dementia 8 years ago, and seeing how much groups like Memory Lane and the people within them since and being a small part of a group too, I know and understand the value of these groups and the people who help to light the way for those with Dementia and their carers and loved ones, it has helped my family personally but more so too I have seen how it helps other families, just knowing the person with Dementia is not seen as someone who can't, but are included and are able to remain involved within their community and live happier alongside their loved ones, as their loved ones also can share in the activities and outings that these groups like Memory Lane Eastbourne can provide.
I am very proud and fortunate to have the opportunity to help as a volunteer and felt doing something positive for our mental health with a good few walks would be a good way of raising awareness and vital funds towards keeping those activities and outings for our members going once lockdown is lifted. So il be doing 4 walks over 4 days, 10,000 steps a day minimum, and I will be doing these walks dressed as our charity mascot, the Yellow Elephant.
My First walk and 10,000 steps takes place on this Thursday March 11th, happens to be my birthday on that day too, and this walk will hopefully be along the seafront in the afternoon, depending on weather, if weather is bad il be doing all my steps at home dancing in the costume instead and doing a live Facebook feed. I then will do 10,000 steps each day thereafter till and including Sunday 14th March on Mother's day, where il be walking around Hampden Park weather dependent. On Friday the 12th, I plan to walk around the harbour and then Saturday from the pier to Holywell and back. Will update and confirm times nearer the time.
Of course I would like to add I will be adhering to the covid guidelines and insist that if you are out walking also and see me, please stick to the 2 meter rule distancing and there will be no collecting via tins or handing out any leaflets on this occasion, donations can only be accepted through just giving and must ask that we all remember and respect we are in lockdown currently still, so I will be being very careful and doing my part to keep everyone safe and well while out walking. This has been organised by me alone, not the charity, and I would like to help them continue the good work they are doing.
