Jake says Thank You · 6 October 2012

DVLCC supports children under 5 with cerebral palsy and other motor learning impairments through a life-changing, intensive early intervention service. With pioneering therapies to unlock their full potential, our children and their families take the first step toward a brighter future.

Story

I shall be taking part in a tandem skydive on Saturday 6 October 2012 at Headcorn Parachute Club to raise funds for The Dame Vera Lynn Trust for Children with Cerebral Palsy.

All the money raised will contribute towards the £660,000 that it costs annually to run the services of the School for Parents in West Sussex. I should be so grateful for your sponsorship.

My colleague Sally has a son called Jake who was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy (four limb motor disorder) last October and he attends the Dame Vera Lynn Trust School for Parents every Friday. As you can imagine it was a great shock for the whole family when Jake was diagnosed. But with the support that the Dame Vera Lynn Trust has given both Jake and the family Jake has continued to progress with his motor development and is improving every week.

Here is a little more information about this wonderful charity:http://www.dvltrust.org.uk/

The Dame Vera Lynn Trust for Children with Cerebral Palsy provides a specialist service for families of young children with cerebral palsy and other motor learning difficulties. Parents and children learn daily living skills together at our School for Parents using the principles of Conductive Education. We support families with babies and children under five years of age.

We currently have over 80 families attending our School for Parents in West Sussex and Suffolk. Families travel from Sussex, Kent, Surrey, Essex, Middlesex, Berkshire, Suffolk and the London Boroughs.

A highly skilled and professional team helps parents to recognise a child's unique qualities and achievements. Everyday is an exciting experience and parents can talk openly to each other about their child's activities, sharing an understanding of each other's situation.

The emphasis on School for Parents is to provide strong practical support for all parents who have children with special needs within a mutually sympathetic and encouraging environment.

All the services we offer are provided free of charge. We receive no statutory funding and rely entirely on the support of the community to raise the £660,000 needed this year to ensure that this vital and much needed service can continue.
