Story

SHARON'S MOUNTAIN CHALLENGE

In June I will be climbing Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike - the highest mountains in Scotland, Wales and England - in just one weekend.

I'm doing this to raise money for Karen's Homes from Home, which have been founded and supported by the Karen Morris Memorial Trust who support leukaemia patients and their families.

Karen was my friend, we met in our teens and were good friends at university where we shared a house. She lost her fight with leukaemia just over twenty years ago at the age of just 23. She was an amazing person and the grace and spirit with which she fought inspired many around her and led her friends and family to set up the Karen Morris Memorial Trust.

Since then those at KMMT have put in an incredible amount of work to raise funds to support leukaemia patients and their families, providing practical and emotional support at a time when its really needed.

As part of this they have set up and continue to fund Karen's Homes From Home for leukaemia patients and their families. These are flats which allow families to be close to their loved ones during treatment, providing a haven where people can find space and relaxation during really tough times.

There are now four flats, one in each of Birmingham, London, Oxford and Cambridge close by to the hospitals. They mean families can be together, cook, relax and have a small semblance of normality during really tough times.

"The emotional benefits for friends, family and patient cannot be overstated ... you have made a difficult time more bearable and Karen's light lives on" Gerald.

"We will never forget the flat at the Hammersmith, an island in a very sad sea" Mr and Mrs Davies"

"It is so difficult to put into words the difference [the flat] made to our whole family at such a stressful time" Margaret, Kings Lynn

During these past twenty years I've had huge admiration for all at KMMT. Not only for the incredible amount they have achieved, but also for how they have turned such pain into positivity and all they've done to make the journey a little bit easier for others. I was so pleased when Karen's mum Sylvia was awarded an MBE for all her hard work and the incredible achievements of the KMMT.

With your help we can do even more. The KMMT is working to create similar much needed facilities throughout the UK supporting people when they need it most.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my page and supporting my efforts, very best wishes Sharon
