Story

Hi,my name is Sharon and I shall be competing in my FIRST EVER half marathon this september, I have been training hard for this and I shall be honest its been tough, but I have a good reason to motivate me to keep pushing. The charity I have choosen to run for is the Huntingtons Disease Association ( HDA) this charity helps to support families whose lives are effected by Huntingtons Disease and also to raise awareness of HD within the general public and professionals, so families can obtain help, advice and information on the disease.

Unfortunately, Huntingtons Disease became known to me when a dear friend of mine told me she had the disease. Tracey was a smart witty woman who adored and cherished her family and friends. She was a mother of 2 and a grandmother of 3 and enjoyed socialising with friends. Tracey knew well of the disease as she had nursed her father through it. Sadly we lost Tracey 18 months ago at the young age of 46. She is missed greatly and I still find myself smiling as I remember different comments and moments I shared with her. Shes forever in our hearts.

Huntingtons Disease is a progressive degenerative neurological disorder which causes a steady decline of a persons physical, emotional and cognitive skills. It is a genetic illness and every child born to a parent carrying the huntingtons gene has a 50% risk of inheriting the gene and going on to develop the illness at some stage in their life. It effects both male and female equally and although the onset of the symptoms are usually between the age of 30-55 years of age there is a juvenile form of the illness. As yet there is no known cure for Huntingtons Disease.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Huntington's Disease Association gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

SO PLEASE SPONSOR ME, I REALLY WANT TO GIVE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE TO A MUCH NEEDED CHARITY

THANK YOU
