Birmingham Marrow 19-20

Simplyhealth Great Birmingham Run 2019 · 13 October 2019 ·
For the last 2 years, I have been very active in working with Birmingham Marrow as it means so much to me personally. This year, I thought of enrolling myself in a half-marathon and then made sure to let my friends and family know, to prevent me from backing out. Despite it only being a 15 minute walk away, I was picked up and dropped to school by car, nearly everyday for 7 years. I hope this conveys how lazy I can be and how me and running do not mix.
Myself and a few other members from our Birmingham Marrow community will be challenging ourselves with this marathon- any support will be appreciated. I’ve spoken to donors and recipients and have seen firsthand just how Anthony Nolan changes lives, it’s incredible!
Birmingham Marrow is a part of the network of lifesaving students who work with the blood cancer charity, Anthony Nolan. There are over 50 Marrow groups, with hundreds of student volunteers (like us!) in universities across the country, who are all working towards one thing - saving the lives of people with blood cancer.Every 14 minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with blood cancer. For someone with blood cancer, a stem cell transplant could be their last chance of survival. At Anthony Nolan, we match incredible people willing to donate their stem cells, to people with blood cancer who are in desperate need of a lifesaving transplant.Marrow now recruit one in four people who go on to donate stem cells, which means hundreds of lives are potentially saved by Marrow's incredible work.It costs £40 to add each potential lifesaver to the stem cell register. Every penny and every pound that Birmingham Marrow raises will help to continue saving the lives of people with blood cancer.
