AGE UK Westminster + SINGAPORE HIGH COMMISSION IN LONDON – COVID-19 SUPPORT FOR THE ELDERLY

The Singapore High Commission in London, in partnership with AGE UK (Westminster), is helping to raise awareness and funds to promote digital inclusion and provide personal protective equipment (PPE) and supplies to our older friends in the community, who have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19. Your generosity and support will go a long way to better their quality of life.

COVID-19 has had a devastating effect on the older people supported by Age UK. Most have gone from being active and independent to being isolated in their homes. Age UK was providing face to face activities, including iTea Parties, but since COVID-19 these have moved online to continue providing activity and social interaction. Many of Age UK clients don't possess a smartphone, laptop or tablet and have no access to the internet. The emergence of COVID-19 has intensified the need to be digitally connected and Age UK strives to provide clients with digital devices and introduce them the benefits of the 'digital age'.

Age UK’s online support notwithstanding, the organisation also has to prepare for a return to visiting clients and face to face group activities, thus requiring PPE for staff, volunteers and clients to carry out its engagement activities safely.

The Singapore High Commission in London has long partnered Age UK for our community-focused programmes. With an ageing population in Singapore, we are familiar with the challenges faced by the elderly, and more importantly recognise their contributions to the community and country at large. Through this fund-raising effort, we aim to raise awareness of Age UK’s work and support Age UK in the procurement and supply of digital devices, PPE and other materials for the delivery of their programmes. We will also be participating in online iTEA/Techy parties to personally engage with the clients and provide support during this critical time for everyone. We hope you can join us too.
