The number of people diagnosed with cancer is growing, we're doing whatever it takes to help more people with cancer get the best care the UK has to offer, whoever and wherever they are. To donate, volunteer, raise money or campaign with us, call 0300 1000 200 or visit macmillan.org.uk

Story

Shaving off my hair on Jan 11th '24 is a drastic measure but one that I'm committed to do to show my support and appreciation for all that Macmillan Cancer Support does.

The slow rate at which my hair grows will mean accepting a radical change in my look for a long time and it has taken some time to persuade myself! But it’s all for the good. I say to myself “think of the positives Sheila”. No more time spent messing with the hairdryer, no bad hair days (every day will be different until I get used to the new me), no more need for a ponytail on windy days (and we get a lot of them in Wales), no more hair in the eyes doing a downward dog……the list is endless.

Like me, I’m sure that all of you have had, or are likely to have, the difficult experience of a close family member or a friend, being given a cancer diagnosis. Indeed, some of you brave people have a cancer journey that you’re making right now. I’m doing this in memory of my friend, Felicity, who sadly lost her battle with breast cancer in August ’23. She often spoke during her years of treatment of the brilliant care she was receiving from the Macmillan Nurses. Macmillan is a wonderful charity that helps people get through their treatment for cancer – please help me to help too, by sponsoring me with my  'Shave Off'. (Apologies if I’ve sent this to you more than once via different groups/ social media).

If you’ve read this far, thank you for reading and if you can sponsor a little or a lot that would be fab!

Many thanks
