Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our MyelomaUK fundraising page.
William, James, Edward and I are cycling from Lands End to John O'Groats (LEJOG) in support of MyelomaUK. Richard will also be joining-in for a lesser distance each day, and the hardest job falls to Liz as support crew and driver of the large motorhome that will be our base for the fortnight or so of the trip.
After extensive treatment, the boys' grandmother, Muriel Sherwood, finally succumbed to myeloma, a blood cancer, a few years ago. More recently, a good friend of ours in Poole, Justin Coldstream, was diagnosed with myeloma, and is currently under treatment. Justin has great support from his wife and three children, but his family, in turn, also need support, something which MyelomaUK offer in addition to their work in expediting research into myeloma and the availability and application of appropriate treatments.
We therefore wish to dedicate our "LEJOG" cycle ride both to the memory of my mother, and to all those, like Justin, who are currently navigating the physical and mental challenges posed by their diagnosis and treatment.
Our planned LEJOG route totals 962 miles, with getting on for twice the height of Mount Everest in climbing! We start our ride with a 30 mile 'warm-up' on Sunday 30th July, followed by 12 cycling days averaging about 78 miles per day. Please assist our motivation by supporting MyelomaUK via a donation on this JustGiving page. Many, many thanks!
