The North East Trust for Aphasia (NETA) supports people with aphasia and their carers. Aphasia means difficulties with communication, often following stroke. The person with aphasia can have problems speaking, understanding, reading and writing. This can have major effects for both the person and their family in terms of social life, work and relationships.

Story

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.

On Tuesday April 28th members of Newcastle University Speech and Language Therapy Society are having a sponsored silence. From 7am untill 7pm (excluding clinic, where applicable!) we shall not utter a single word (verbally) but instead be promoting 'Total Communication'; gesture, writing, pointing etc to highlight the communication difficulties people can have following a stroke.

We shall be raising money for the North East Trust for Aphasia (Registered Charity No. 1100882), which provides therapy support and information for those with communication difficulties following a stroke and is run within the University. Some 58,000 people in the North East have aphasia. Side effects of aphasia include the loss of confidence and the feeling of isolation. NETA is mainly run by people with aphasia relies entirely on its own fundraising abilities to continue its work.

We are so excited about how much this is raising, it means so much to NETA. Thank you :)

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: North East Trust for Aphasia gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor us in our peaceful but poignant event!
