Story
I've been given a charity place with Stepping Stones Luton to run the London Marathon (42kms or 26.2 miles) on Sunday 23rd April 2023.
I was supposed to run London marathon in April 2020 and got to week 10 of the marathon training programme but Covid-19 struck the country.
Since then I decided not to run the marathons which were virtual or without spectators because it wouldn’t have been the same London marathon with the same atmosphere and spectators cheering you on literally every step of the way on the course.
I’m doing 16 weeks (867kms or 542 miles) of marathon training which started in the New Year because you have to do the kms or miles on the road to build up your stamina and spend time on your feet (4 hours) to run a marathon.
The domestic abuse charity for women only is based in Luton and is dedicated in supporting vulnerable women who have been victims of domestic abuse to transform their lives by creating happier and healthier lives for them and if applicable their children and families to improve the quality of their lives.
Stepping Stones provide safe welcoming environment for women living in Luton and Central Bedfordshire who have suffered domestic abuse and who are vulnerable due to substance misuse, offending, mental and physical health and or are involved with Local Authority
Children’s Social Care.
- 28% of women over the age of 16 have experienced domestic abuse
- 60% of female offenders have experienced domestic abuse
- 2 women a week are killed by their partner or ex-partner
- 20% of children have been exposed to domestic abuse during childhood
I'm determined, motivated and passionate about raising money for the charity and running the London Marathon because it has always been lifetime ambition to run this world famous marathon and raise money for charity.
If you’re interested and would like to support me in my training, run and donate to charity please click on my Just Giving page below which has all my runs from Strava (running and walking app) and messages of support from family and friends which have inspired me when training for this marathon.
Thanks to family and friends who have already donated and every little bit helps supporting vulnerable women to move forward and transform their lives for the better and if applicable their children which is good for them and society especially nowadays with cost of living and debt crisis affecting everyone in the country especially poorest and most vulnerable women in society.
