People who are deafblind have substantial visual and hearing loss which causes extreme difficulty with communication, information and mobility. We aim to raise aspirations and expand the lives of Deafblind people, some of the least visible and most isolated members of society.

Story

I am currently in training to trek up Kilimanjaro at the end of this year to raise funds for Deafblind Scotland.  Deafblind Scotland is a small charity which works to support adults who have lost, or are losing both their sight and hearing.  I am one of those people.  Born profoundly deaf, I am now losing my sight too as a result of a genetic condition called Usher Syndrome.

Deafblind Scotland provides people like me with information, advice and specialised support and is the only organisation of its kind in Scotland working with adults with acquired deafblindness.  I have been a member of the charity’s staff since 1997 and in my role as Training Manager seek to educate and equip sighted hearing people to deal with the daily challenges deafblind people face.  I teach from first hand experience and few know better than me the value of Deafblind Scotland’s services.

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.

Many thanks for your support.
